Summer Science Campus

Promotion of scientific vocations in young students

The ICE Andalucía TECH promotes research vocations through the Summer Science Campus, a project funded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports, the Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology and sponsored by the "la Caixa" Foundation.

The participants are High School students selected by their qualifications and a test conducted exclusively for this educational program.

The aim is to foster scientific vocations in young students through the direct contact with the research work. To this end, four projects are developed in the fields of biology, chemistry, physics and mathematics.

Each student participates in one of these projects working together to make a final presentation of the results. The program also includes accommodation and several cultural, leisure and sports activities.

The third and last edition of the Summer Science Campus in Seville held july 1st to 27th 2013, where 112 students worked in the following projects:

  • Cryptography and Prime Numbers, in the field of Mathematics.
  • Intelligent Computing with Living Organisms, in the field of Bioinformatics.
  • Genetics: from laboratory to society, in the field of Genetics.
  • Electricity: from Coulomb to our plug, in the field of Physics.

July 1st to 28th 2012,the Summer Science Campus was held in Seville. The projects developed in the second edition of Science Campus were the following:

  • Cryptography and Prime Numbers, in the field of Mathematics.
  • Intelligent Computing with Living Organisms, in the field of Bioinformatics.
  • Genetics: from laboratory to society, in the field of Genetics.
  • Electricity: from Coulomb to our plug, in the field of Physics.

The first edition of the Summer Science Campus held july 3rd to 30th 2011, in Seville, where 60 students worked in the following projects:

  • Carbon Fiber vs. Metals: An approach to the resistance of aircraft materials, in the field of Engineering.

In every edition, there are tours to research centers such as the National Accelerator Centre (CNA), the Andalusian Center for Molecular Biology and Regenerative Medicine (CABIMER) and the Institute of Plant Biochemistry and Photosynthesis (IBVF).

Are also performed other non-scientific activities, highlighting the guided visits to buildings and landmarks of the city such as the Tobacco Factory, the Cathedral, the Giralda, the Barrio Santa Cruz and Maria Luisa Park and sports facilities relevant of the city, such as the College of Maese Rodrigo and Sports Complex Bermejales the University of Seville.
